I’ve always been fascinated by the growth patterns of trees. The roots plant themselves farther into the Earth while simultaneously growing up and out of the ground, up the trunk, stretching to the very tips of each branch. Their growth rates are not linear nor consistent, often coming in “fast” untamed spurts of growth when their climate allows. This can be applied to the human experience; life’s ups and downs are inconsistent, all contributing to one’s personal growth through experience. The untamed and freeing aspects of growth can be seen throughout this body of work. I let the untamed nature of my life guide my color and mark using tree branches as a map to self discovery. Each branch and mark feels like a personal memory of mine, coming together to create a whole.
